Default Why cap at 20?

Been wondering, why on earth is the level cap as low as 20? C'MON 20? you reach that within' a day or two. Friggin boring.

It could atleast be 40, and some high-level mobs.

Really hope Guild Wars 2 will let players reach levels beyond 20.

thread number 1,362,872 on the level cap...

its 20 because thats what anet wanted. low level cap takes the emphasis off of grind, and onto skill level of the player. it the basis of almost all GW balance.

Technically it could be 100 and still take just as short of a time. It could also be 5 and take as much time.

It's more about how easy it is to distinguish between power and not as powerful, I suppose. 20 is a good marker of a short, reachable goal that allows enough numbers to show the differences of power.

Considering that I've hardcore played GW for over a year, and moved on to WoW, perhaps not.

grind = challenge? last i played WoW, the AI wasnt any smarter, nor was the PvP any more challenging.

level of challenge is dictated by how you play, in any game, WoW included, not how long you play. spending more time does not equate to more challenging, just more time consuming.

So killing zillions of AI monster to get to lv 70, is a challenge? I see, very challenging indeed.

IMO, it makes it less of a grind, but still allows you to level around once a mission, which is not to slow that its a grind, not to fast that you dont appreciate it

Just mod your game so that every number that pops up has an extra zero at the end. That way your new level cap is 200 and you can have thousands of life, and duel mighty level 280 monsters.

Grind games allow those with the lack of intelligence and creativity to achieve something by sitting and killing water demons all day gaining 0.001% by 0.001% of their level. They don't have to read, think or even be at the pc because all you have to do is press 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3, a simple bot can replace you (yes, it's that dumb).
You don't really see much variety in the monsters themselves either, it's just the hp, damage reduction and damage output that changes. Oh joy, that's a challenge.

Try Silkroad Online :P you can grind for a year there to get to your max lvl.

Grind? I want more to do! You know there's raid's, Heroic Mode Instances and stuff like that, now that's a challenge.

Well, that doesn't have anything to do with levels.

The only thing accelerating grind really does for the game is adds variety and makes your character more identifiable.

Practically everyone in Guild Wars is level 20, and most people have the same armor. Introducing grind does admittedly make having certain kinds of armor more... special, in a way. But then again, it's grind.

Obsidian Armor is the closest GW has to that sort of identifying factor, and it does indeed require grind. And we can all see how well-respected people with Obsidian armor are, right?

Really, the only way you can get that sort of thing in a game like Guild Wars is to place an armor crafter, or whatever, at the end of a very difficult mission, one that's very difficult to reach. If you place an armor crafter at the end of an elite mission, maybe... Perhaps make it so that completing the mission once gives you 1 quest item, and having 5 grants you access to the crafter? Sort of like combining a collector with a crafter, at the end of the most difficult mission in the game. Anyway, random thought.

you know about DoA, PvP, and the upcoming hard mode, right? theres your added stuff and challenge. if none of that interests you, then yes, you bought the wrong game.

its no knock to WoW. its a great game. actually a really great game. but more challenging? again, how you play a game, any game, dictates the level of challenge, not the length.

No, not really. Why grind for something that has basically the same stats as the regular 15kish?

THAT is the real let-down in GW, sword and armor are all the same, the same stats, just different skins, add a quick race to level 20, and you got a game that lasts for about a week or two.

Again, why would you care? You moved to Wow, a good and fun game also very different to GW. It's like asking, why can't Mario run as fast as Sonic?

Reaching the limit in a day or two is the point - That way you can start playing the game soon rather than spending weeks or months getting a character ready to start playing.

Amen. well said. The first armour idea was good, so that the game was more skill based, not how much armour you had, but it does get abit tedious when it comes to obsidian armour now. Grind for ages to get the "best" armour in the game, which is just as good as the 1.5k armour, and then get called an e-bayer. Cheers
